Sugaring weekends at Coggeshall Farm Museum

Explore the farm and see the process of maple sugaring from the tapping of the trees to sugaring down the sap. There will be scavenger hunts, a maple craft, and kids games. Finish off your visit to the historic farmhouse to view the final stage in the process from sap to maple sugar. Learn more about the history of maple sugar in the region and the connections to land usage, trade and early abolitionist movements.

WHAT: Annual maple sugaring

WHEN: Saturdays and Sundays, Feb. 24 and 25 and March 2 and 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

WHERE: Coggeshall Farm Museum, 1 Colt Drive, Bristol

COST: $10 for adults and $5 for kids (4 and under free); tickets at coggeshallfarm.org.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
