Storm takes its toll in Portsmouth

Posted

PORTSMOUTH — Although Portsmouth has been spared — knock on wood — widespread power outages unlike some in other surrounding towns, the storm that’s roaring across the region certainly hasn't ignored our area.

High winds convinced the school district to delay classes for two hours on Wednesday at the elementary and middle schools.

The storm wreaked havoc on many large trees that were not helped by Tuesday’s rain that softened up the ground.

Over in Common Fence Point, high winds knocked a sailboat from its stand at Safe Harbor Sakonnet.

And a powerboat, ironically named Silver Lining, ran aground at McCorrie Point Beach.
