Step back in time with guided tours of Lippitt House Museum

One of the few historical homes in Providence that you can go inside and explore, Lippitt House Museum, is launching its 2024 tour season. Nestled on the East Side of Providence, Lippitt House stands as a testament to Providence’s Golden Age. Its ornate interiors, meticulously preserved architecture, and rich family history offer a unique glimpse into the past. Visitors to Lippitt House Museum can expect a memorable journey through time. Each tour provides insight into the lives of the 19th-century family and servants who lived there with stories shared by knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff who bring the house and its inhabitants to life.

"‘I’ve lived in Rhode Island my whole life and never known this gem was here,’ is a common statement we hear,” says Curator of Education Cathy Saunders. “We want to change that! I invite all Rhode Islanders (and everyone else) to come experience this National Historic Landmark firsthand. There's something here to interest everyone."

Lippitt House Museum is not just a display of artifacts; every corner holds a story waiting to be discovered. Whether you're a history enthusiast, an architecture buff, or simply looking for an enjoyable experience, a guided tour of Lippitt House Museum has something to satisfy.

May through October, Lippitt House Museum is open for guided tours every Friday, select Saturdays, and the first Thursday of the month.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
