Scary weather or no, Halloween is still on in Warren

Halloween is still on in Warren, though that may be just a technicality with nasty weather headed in for the evening.

Denise Kinney, who works in Warren Town Manager Kate Michaud’s office, said there was some informal discussion about the weather around the office Thursday morning. And while one resident did call to ask if Halloween has been canceled in Warren, “it’s not,” she said. “We’re just asking people to drive safely and use good judgement.”

Talk of canceling the holiday may not be getting much traction in Warren, but several other communities across Rhode Island have officially postponed the holiday until Saturday, when better weather is expected. The talk of cancellations didn’t go over well with one local businessman, who said he’ll be handing out candy to trick-or-treaters Thursday at 6 p.m.:

“Hey folks, don’t allow yourself or your kids to be afraid of the darn rain. Trick or treat safely, of course. But teach them to celebrate Halloween on the actual night. They will grow up to be soooo much more cool and thank you for it,” David Podsnap, the owner of the Galactic Theatre, wrote in an Instagram post Thursday morning.
