Rock, rhythm and blues festival in Westport

The 27th annual Westport Rock Rhythm & Blues Festival to benefit A Wish Come True is on Friday to Sunday. On Friday, the Jimmy Thibault Memorial Chicken BBQ is from 5 to 10 p.m. with entertainment by The Basics. On Saturday and Sunday, the main gate opens at noon with nonstop music both days. A cash bar will be open from noon to 7 p.m. The kitchen will serve hot dogs, burgers, chouriço and peppers, sausage sandwiches, French fries and more. A raffle and auction is each day.

WHAT: Westport Rock Rhythm & Blues Festival

WHEN: Friday to Sunday, Sept. 9 to 11

WHERE: Holy Ghost Club grounds, Sodom Road, Westport

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
