PORTSMOUTH — Stickers to use the Hedly Street and Prudence Island transfer stations go on sale at the Tax Collector’s office at Portsmouth Town Hall beginning Jan. 3, 2022.

You can buy the stickers during normal business hours: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday; 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday; and 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Friday.

Transfer station stickers for 2022 will cost $210 for the first vehicle per household, and $10 for one additional vehicle per household.

The 2021 sticker will provide entry into the stations until the end of January 2022.

The town continues the pay-as-you-throw (PAYT) program used in conjunction with its transfer station. All residential household waste must be disposed of in specially marked, town-approved bags residents purchase at area stores.

Recycling is disposed of free of charge. Yard waste dropoff is available March 15 through Dec. 31 and is also free of charge. The Hedly Street transfer station offers a wide variety of diversion bins to dispose of various household items, most of which are free.

The application including the 2022 rules for each transfer station, FAQs, links, and more can be found on the Town of Portsmouth’s website at www.portsmouthri.com/182/Transfer-Station-Solid-Waste. You can purchase stickers by mail using the application form for the applicable transfer station, which are available on the town’s website and at Town Hall. Instructions and documents needed for mail applications are detailed on the application itself. The town is not responsible for lost mail applications.

If you have any questions about the stickers, call the Tax Collector’s office at 401/683-1214. For any inquiries about the PAYT program or recycling, e-mail publicworks@portsmouthri.com, or call 401/683-0362.
