PORTSMOUTH — The Town Council Monday night, May 13, will consider a request from Town Planner Gary Crosby to solicit bids for a proposal to provide ferry service to and from Prudence Island beginning in December.
The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at Town Hall.
Prudence Ferry owner Bruce Medley recently announced that his company will cease operations on Dec. 1, leaving islanders and local officials scrambling to find a way to keep a ferry operating.
In a May 7 letter to the council, Mr. Crosby seeks permission for the Finance Department and himself to work together "to draft and publish an RFP (request for proposal) to provide ferry service to Prudence Island beginning in December 2013."
Mr. Crosby said the town has been working "closely with the Prudence Island Planning Commission and a citizens working committee to review our options. An RFP would allow us to understand our options for the future."
