Police urge residents to lock their vehicles, remove valuables

Larcenies from cars reported in Barrington

It happened on College Lane and on Manning Drive and on Sowams Road last week.

Residents across town reported that someone had tried to enter their vehicles during the overnight hours, grabbing whatever was left inside. In most cases, loose change was stolen.

Barrington Police Chief Michael Correia is reminding residents to remove valuables from their vehicles and lock up their cars.

“There are some steps to minimize becoming a victim,” Chief Correia said. “Lock your (vehicle) doors. Please secure things that could be converted into cash.”

On Monday, July 26, a College Lane resident told police that someone had entered a vehicle parked outside the home during the overnight hours and taken some loose change. On Thursday, a similar incident was reported on Manning Drive. The resident there had a security camera which captured video footage of the suspect: A man who appeared to be between the ages of 18 and 25, medium build, wearing a mask. The Manning Drive residents’ vehicles were locked, so nothing was stolen.

Early Sunday morning, a Sowams Road resident contacted police after someone went through vehicles parked outside the home. Again, some loose change was taken.
