Plein Air Landscape with Mark Fernandez

This workshop is for beginning and intermediate aspiring artists who want to develop the fundamentals of outdoor painting. The workshop focus will be on capturing the light and shadows and color relationships using a limited palette. Mark will start each day with a quick demonstration. He will discuss composition, equipment, and how to simplify the plein air process. Painting outdoors presents unique challenges but with a little guidance it becomes second nature. Colt State Park and Coggeshal l Farm will be the locations and we will learn techniques for painting trees, skies and land that will enhance your plein air paintings. Open to oil, water soluble oils and acrylic painters. Portable easel required (but a limited number available).

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
