This exciting program opens with music by the extraordinary 18th century composer Joseph Bologne of African and French origin, who was a famed swordsman in addition to being a virtuoso violinist. Clarice Assad’s Canções de America is a suite of song-like movements spotlighting the musical styles and traditions of South America. Finally, the quartet will perform Mendelssohn’s passionate String Quartet in a minor, op. 13 written when he was just eighteen years old.
