New principal named at Nayatt School in Barrington

Former principal Tracey Learned left in October

Barrington School Superintendent Michael Messore announced last week that the district had hired a new principal for Nayatt School. Mr. Messore said the district hired Melissa Moniz to lead Nayatt School — she will start working at Nayatt on Jan. 10.

According to an email from the district, Ms. Moniz had been working as principal of Citizens Memorial Elementary School in Woonsocket. She has previous experience as an elementary school special education teacher and an elementary school assistant principal.

“She is very excited to work with the Nayatt School community and work with our students, staff and families in continuing to provide students with a high quality educational experience,” Mr. Messore wrote.

Ms. Moniz was expected to be contacting Nayatt School families after the winter break — there will be several opportunities for her to introduce herself to the community.

Ms. Moniz replaces former Nayatt Principal Tracey Learned, who resigned in late October after nearly 10 years with the district. Ms. Learned left Barrington to filll an administrative post in the Providence Public School Department.
