Man dies following Tiverton truck accident

Police do not suspect alcohol or speed as contributing factors, but crash remains under investigation

A Massachusetts man died after his truck collided with a stone wall and tree on Crandall Road early Friday afternoon, March 25.

Police said the driver, Michael J. Guidry, 63, of Acushnet, was driving a 2003 Chevy S10 pickup north on Crandall at about 2:30 p.m. when he left the lane of travel, striking a telephone pole on the east side of the road. His truck then returned to the road, traveled north for approximately 400 feet, and again left the lane of travel. The vehicle then entered the lawn of 798 Crandall Road, where the truck struck a stone wall and tree before coming to rest.

When they arrived, officers said Guidry, the sole occupant, was unconscious and slumped over in the driver's seat. Tiverton Fire Department personnel quickly arrived on the scene and began to treat him, and Tiverton Rescue transported Guidry to St. Anne's Hospital in Fall River, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Though the accident is still under investigation, police said Monday that alcohol and speed do not appear to be contributing factors. Investigators are attempting to determine if Guidry suffered a medical emergency prior to the accident.
