The Rhode Worthy Cup, awarded by the Beer Awards Platform, recognizes the quality of Rhode Island-produced beverages including wine, spirits, beer, ciders, seltzer, and non-alcoholic products. This year, when judging wrapped up at the end of August two local establishments, O’Brien & Brough and Tragmar Ale Works, received top honors.

Gold, silver and bronze medals were awarded to the best entries in each judged category. The Rhode Worthy Cup also grants three additional honors: Champion Producer is given to the entrant with the highest number of points scored through medals across all categories; the Award of Excellence goes to the entrant with the highest average score across all of their entries; and the Champion Estate Wine is given to the best wine or cider made from only estate-grown ingredients. Of those three awards, Bristol producers brought home two: O’Brien & Brough received the Rhode Worthy Cup Award of Excellence, And Tragmar Ale Works was named the Rhode Worthy Cup Champion Producer.
O’Brien & Brough won a gold medal for their bourbon and a silver for their gin.

"We're honored to receive the Award of Excellence and thrilled to share the spotlight with our neighbors at Tragmar,” said O’Brien & Brough co-owner Adam O’Brien. “This town makes some of the best beverages around and it's exciting to see that recognized at the state level."
Tragmar Ale Works won a total of 8 medals, which led to their Champion Producer honor. They won gold medals for their Hill of Tara Cream ale, Morrigan Irish stout, Brigid Smokey Braggot, and Maori Macha New Zealand Pilsner, and silver medals for their Caves of Kesh Czech Dark Lager, Cernunnos Sour with strawberry, kiwi and lime, Goibniu Irish Red, and Cullans Hound Peanut Butter Milk Stout.
“It is an honor to be able to achieve  that many awards in one contest,” said brewer Mike Godet. “We threw a bunch of our favorite beers at the Rhode Worthy Cup and it paid off!

Tragmar also earned national recognition recently with a bronze medal in the US Open Beer Championship for their New Zealand pilsner "Maori Macha" They also submitted “Brigid," their smokey braggot, to the US National Honey Board, which received a bronze in the national honey beer contest.

“We are humbled by the positive local reception of our product,” Godet. “We continue to seek national recognition for feedback, and that strategy has proven successful. It gives us confidence to keep pushing forward and share our passion with our community.”
