Boat owners across Westport, Little Compton and the rest of the south coast were already pulling their boats out Friday morning, as the region awaits the arrival of Tropical Storm Henri, which is projected to strengthen into a Category 1 area and hit the region Sunday into Monday. Winds of 40 to 65 miles an hour, with gusts up to 85 miles per hour, are currently forecast.
On Friday morning, Westport Fire Chief Brian Legendre sent out a warning to residents to prepare for Henri's arrival.
"Be prepared to remove trailers and all other items off your lot if a hurricne warning is issued by the National Weather Service," he wrote, noting that East Beach Road will be closed by the police if the safety of residents requires it.
In addition, they gave these tips:
• Be proactive and secure all loose items on your lot to prevent injuries and property damage prior to the storm arriving.
• Keep a close eye on weather reports to be aware of any forecast changes.
• Secure and remove all hazardous materials (oil, gasoline, propane, etc.)
• Help your neighbors secure their property if needed.
• You can monitor any important pre-recorded updates by calling the Westport EMA information line at 1-774-264-5155 (it will be updated as needed).
