The Barrington Town Council will hold a meet and greet with the newly named Town Manager Philip Hervey on Monday, Nov. 22 at 5 p.m. in the Town Council Chambers at Barrington Town Hall (283 County Rd, Barrington).

Hervey will replace retiring Town Manager Jim Cunha on Jan. 1, 2022.

The town council and Philip Hervey will provide remarks; members of the audience will be able to ask questions; and a social hour will follow.

For more than 15 years, Hervey has served as the town’s planner, helping to secure approximately 50 grants totaling more than $6.4 million for Barrington, including funds from the National Park Service and Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management. He has been a recipient of several awards from the Rhode Island Chapter of American Planning Association. His 2020 Bay Spring Neighborhood Resilience Plan was named Excellent Comprehensive Plan, while his Barrington Comprehensive Community Plan was awarded Outstanding Comprehensive Plan in 2015.

A reminder to all attendees that the Town of Barrington requires face masks in all town buildings including Town Hall, Schools, Library, Senior Center, Public Safety, and Public Works.

He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
