Grammy Award-winning storyteller Bill Harley coming to Warren

Warren’s Imago Gallery (36 Market St.) will host an accomplished singer/storyteller this Friday for its first ever live concert, as it will welcome in two-time Grammy Award-winning Bill Harley.

“I’ve been booking concerts, coffeehouses and festivals since 1987, in Providence, Scituate, Foster and more recently, during the last 10 years, here in Warren,” said Elwood Donnelly of the event. “During a conversation with one of the board members of Imago Foundation For the Arts, we determined that the gallery was looking for ways to get people into the venue who otherwise might not know about the wonderful and eclectic art that is shown there.”

Donnelly said it was easy to pick from a list of possible musicians to grace the Imago, particularly when Harley was among the names on it.

“Bill is easily one of the finest storytellers alive, and his masterful work has influenced a generation of listeners,” he said, adding that his spoken word and song style would be “the right person to bring the community together.”

Harley, a resident of Seekonk, Mass., has toured internationally as a performing artist, author and keynote speaker. He has won two Grammy Awards for Best Spoken Word Album For Children (Blah Blah Blah: Stories About Clams, Swamp Monsters, Pirates & Dogs and Yes to Running! Bill Harley Live) in addition to numerous other accolades throughout the years, including five additional Grammy nominations. He has released over 35 albums to date and is the author of the successful children’s book series “Charlie Bumpers”.

Doors open at 7 p.m. and a suggested donation of $15 has been requested. Contact elwoodisnot@gmail.com for more information.

“The space is beautifully covered with the works of visual artists and the room is warm and intimate, perfect for up-close and personal concert settings,” Donnelly said of the Imago.
