The family-friendly Food Truck 5/10K, which raises money for programs, teachers and students in the Bristol Warren Regional School District, takes place this Saturday, Sept. 25. The event has something for all ages and abilities.

The 5K and 10K courses are USATF Certified; they start and finish on the grounds at the Pete Sepe Pavilion, taking runners on a scenic run out toward Touisett Point, past picturesque farms and Mt. Hope Bay views. The ever-popular Crossfit-style obstacle course Kids Race, designed by Anchor Health and Fitness, is great fun for anyone under 13. The event also offers a 1-Mile Walk on a scenic bike path.

Following the races is the Food Truck festival, with beer garden and live music. Proceeds benefit the Bristol Warren Education Foundation. Registration opens at 8 a.m. The 10K steps off at 10 a.m.; the 5K steps off at 10:10 a.m. The 1-mile walk and kids course follow.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
