EAST PROVIDENCE — The East Providence Fire Department responded to an incident at 10 Tenth St. Thursday evening, Sept 15, which left a pair of families homeless and sent two firefighters to hospital with injuries.

EPFD Chief Oscar Elmasian said the fire apparently broke out in the second floor of the multi-unit home, then extended into the third floor. It took EPFD personnel approximately two hours to suppress the fire. Both floors suffered significant fire, smoke and water damage, left the residence uninhabitable, according to the chief.

The occupants of the home were uninjured, the chief added. His firefighters were treated and later released. The chief said the cause of the fire was being investigated by the city fire safety and state fire marshal offices as well as East Providence Police.
