The East Providence High School girls' lacrosse club closed last hovering at and around the .500 mark in the Division III standings following a split of two league games, a 15-9 loss to visiting Narragansett on Tuesday, May 7, and a dominating 18-3 victory over next-door neighbor Providence Country Day on the Knights' campus Thursday, May 8.
In the setback to the Mariners, Kenna Wigginton paced the EPHS offense with four goals. Kloey Iacavone had a hat-trick. Katherine Almeida and Alyssa Karalekas chipped in a goal apiece. Keeper Ava Williams was credited with seven saves.
In the win over PCD, the Townies never trailed after Dylan Flynn netted the game's first tally 48 seconds into the contest. Six different EP players actually scored the Townies' initial six goals as the visitors led by a half-dozen at the end of the opening 12 minutes. Iacavone, Karalekas, Abigail Leddy, Wigginton and Almeida followed Flynn with tallies.
The Townies later went up 10-0 just about mid-way through the second quarter, leading to a running-clock situation. EP's edge eventually grew to 12-0 seconds before the break when PCD's Finnley Dietrich finally broke through with her side's first goal of the afternoon.
Karalekis led the way for EPHS with four goals. Flynn, Wigginton and Iacavone each had a hat-trick. Almeida and Leddy finished with two each. Nadiyah Calouro-Vargas chipped in one tally. Williams finished with nine saves.
Dietrich, Eloise Wetherby and Ellie Cordischi accounted for the PCD goals.
East Providence improved to 5-5 with the victory over the Knights. PCD fell to 3-7.
