East Providence offers parents school bus mobile app

EAST PROVIDENCE — The East Providence School Department is offering a SafeStop app for parents and students who use bus service.

SafeStop is the mobile app that connects parents to the vehicles transporting their children to and from school.

For $4.99 per month, the easy-to-use mobile app allows parents to monitor the status of their child’s school bus in real-time. They'll be no more guessing where the bus is or when it is arriving at its stop.

The app updates every 30 seconds to provides up-to-date information to plan through a busy day and make sure you are there when the children gets on and off the bus.

The app's available features include: A real-time map to locate your child’s bus; Estimated Arrival Times for the bus at your stop (Available once routes are validated and consistent); An Alerts and Messaging area letting you know of any updates or changes to service; And a secure registration process that ensures only parents and school officials gain access to this information.

To sign up visit EastProvidenceRI.SafeStopApp.com/activate to register or visit www.SafeStopApp.com and look up the school using your home’s zip code.

To securely register, you must enter your School Code: 02EPRO (case sensitive)

After you have registered, you will receive a confirmation email with instructions on how to access SafeStop. Please note that for the first few weeks of service, only the LiveView Bus Locator and Alerts and Messaging features will be available. Estimated Arrival Times will be available in the app once the routes have been validated in the app and we will alert you of that being ready.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
