The Barrington High School boys basketball team trailed LaSalle Academy throughout the first half, but battled back for a 70-64 overtime win on Thursday night, Jan. 4.

The Eagles, playing in front of a home crowd, fell behind 21-13 at the end of the first quarter and trailed 32-24 at halftime against the previously undefeated Rams. But Barrington outscored LaSalle 26-16 in the third quarter to take a 50-48 lead heading into the fourth.

The Eagles and Rams were knotted at 61-61 at the end of regulation.

Matt Raffa scored all nine of Barrington’s points in overtime, and finished the game with a career-high 39 points. Twenty-eight of his 39 points came in the second half.

Nick Scandura knocked down four three-pointers and finished the game with 23 points. Evan Anderson scored six points, all coming in the second half.

Barrington High School Coach Mike Raffa said Jake Ignall also played a key role in the victory. He said Ignall grabbed a loose ball with less than a minute to play in overtime and Barrington leading by four points. That possession proved crucial for the Eagles, Raffa said.

Barrington improved to 8-0 overall and 4-0 in Division I. LaSalle dropped to 3-1 in Division I.
