Warren’s last independent pharmacy will still serve up the best coffee cabinet around, but Delekta’s Pharmacy is getting out of the prescription drug business.
Owner Eric Delekta confirmed Monday that he will be transferring the pharmacy’s prescriptions to CVS as of this Wednesday, April 26. Residents who call in their prescriptions to Delekta’s will automatically have their calls re-routed to CVS.
The decision to stop servicing prescriptions was a tough one, Mr. Delekta said. But it had to be done.
“It’s not something I wanted to do but had to do,” he said. “It got to the point where the red tape and insurance paperwork … it was too much.”
Mr. Delekta’s grandfather Ignatius purchased the pharmacy in 1943, but it was a landmark at the corner of Main and Joyce streets long before then. A pharmacy has stood at that location since 1858.
Mr. Delekta said the store will remain open, likely a comforting thought to the cabinet lovers who often travel many miles to slide up to the wood paneled soda fountain for Delekta’s signature product.
“That won’t change,” Mr. Delekta said.
