A group of Barrington Middle School and Hampden Meadows School students are trying to make a positive change in the world.

The students, who range in age from 10- to 13-years-old, started a service learning group called the Confetti Kids. The group donates "birthdays in a box" and throws parties for children who are hospitalized. 

Charlotte Poirer and Katie Gray played key roles in the creation of the Confetti Kids.

"As you can imagine, we all think celebrating a birthday is very special but it may be very difficult for a parent whose child is in the hospital to provide for that experience while not wanting to leave his/her child," wrote Charlotte and Katie in a recent email. 

The Confetti Kids have planned an event and are hoping to raise $600. The special event will be held on Saturday, Feb. 22 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Bay Spring Community Center at 170 Narragansett Ave. There will be live music, food, and vendors representing local businesses. Admission is free, but organizers are asking people to donate a party supply at the door. 

The Confetti Kids are hoping to host three to four service learning projects each year. 

The Confetti Kids are Katie Gray, Gabby Ormonde, Hero Bremer, Neal Bansal, Jonathan "JP" Currie, Kendra Satine, Charlotte Poirier, Garrett Poirier, Libby Magendantz and high school assistant Elizabeth Fitzhugh. Justine Currie also played a key role in establishing the Confetti Kids.
