Chester R. "Junior" Wilkie Jr., 84, of Little Compton, passed away unexpectedly, Friday, September 22, 2017, at St. Anne's Hospital. He was the longtime companion of Barbara Wilkie.
Born in Fall River, son of the late Chester R. Wilkie Sr. and the late Inez (Cornell) Wilkie, he was a lifelong resident of Little Compton and a proud swamp yankee.
A veteran of the Korean War, he served his country as a sergeant in the United States Army. Mr. Wilkie was the owner/operator of Wilkie Excavating in Little Compton. An avid card player, he was the treasurer of the Little Compton Pitch League. He enjoyed car racing, was a champion tractor puller and prankster who loved Halloween.
Survivors include two sons, Chester R. Wilkie III and his wife Denise of Little Compton, and Christopher S. Wilkie and his wife Stephanie of Little Compton; two daughters, Susan L. Wilkie and her partner David Morse of North Carolina, and Robin L. Brow of Tiverton; a brother, Carlton "Butch" Wilkie of Little Compton; a sister. Caroline Wordell of Little Compton; seven grandchildren, Alicia, Rachel, Abigail, Hannah, Benjamin, Mackenzie and Christopher; a great grandson, Aiden; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Arthur "Benny" Wilkie.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited, will be Wednesday, Sept. 27, at the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Road, Westport at 10 a.m. Calling hours, Tuesday 4-8 p.m.
Interment in Pleasant View Cemetery, Tiverton.
