Car museum unveiling Ford GT 'Supercar'

The Newport Car Museum will be unveiling its limited edition 2018 Ford GT on Saturday, August 4 at 2 p.m. Buyers of the $450,000 supercar are handpicked by the automaker, and only 1,000 are set to be built through 2020. The Ford GT, of which there are 138 so far (this is #109), is a hard-to-come-by masterpiece of minimalism introduced by Ford in 2016 after secret development. Meant to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the original GT40’s 1966 triumph at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the car was entered by Ford in the 2016 Le Mans race and won, making it all that much more of a coveted acquisition.

WHEN: Saturday, August 4; 2 p.m.

Meet our staff
Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
