A Barrington High School athletic field turned into a drive-in movie theater on Thursday night.

An outdoor movie night featuring the original Jaws and complete with popcorn and snacks, was held for members of the BHS Class of 2021 — it is one of the many special events planned for members of the senior class. There was also a bagel run, where seniors were treated to a free lunch at Bagels Etc., a Valentine candy day, a sunset party at the town beach, and other events.

“The BHS Senior Class of 2021 has had a Senior Year (and Junior Year) like no other. And that is probably an understatement,” stated a recent release from the BHS PA. “High school students everywhere have experienced a less than ideal high school experience due to the pandemic and although slowly 5-day in-person learning, events, and activities have started to come back – there was still so much missed since mid-March of 2020. A time when the current high school Seniors were Juniors looking forward to what is the culmination of all your developmental years – always waiting for those high school years – waiting for your Senior Year!”

The Barrington High School Parents Association, in coordination with the high school and Parents of the Class of 2021, is raising money to defray the costs of the events. The BHS PA purchased the outdoor movie screen for the drive-in event, and will gift it to the high school so future classes can enjoy the same experience.

“The BHS PA does not have a large enough financial reserve to cover the costs for these items and events,” stated the release. “Please consider donating - any amount is appreciated - these students deserve our support, they have missed so much of what high school means.”

People can donate via a GoFundMe — https://gofund.me/30ef1ba7 — that has been set up for the Barrington High School Parents’ Association. Or they can mail a donation to BHS PA, c/o Barrington High School, 220 Lincoln Ave., Barrington, RI 02806
