Asher Robbins won the weight throw event and helped the Barrington High School boys indoor track team finish seventh at the state meet on Saturday.
Robbins, a senior, threw the weight 74 feet for the top distance at the event. His teammate, Liam Capozza, finished sixth in the event.
Barrington had two athletes score points in the 55-meter hurdles. Eli Terrell clocked an 8.24 and finished in fourth place while Ethan Knight finished fifth with a time of 8.34.
Brandon Piedade clocked a new school record in the 3,000-meter race. The sophomore finished the event with a time of 8:52.58, which was also good enough for a fourth place finish at states.
Barrington’s 4x200-meter relay team appeared to finish third, but judges disqualified the team. A judge said one of the Barrington runners interfered with a runner on another relay team. Barrington coaches appealed the disqualification but were not successful in overturning the decision.
Barrington’s 4x400-meter relay team was also disqualified from their event after the anchor leg runner threw the baton following the conclusion of the race.
Barrington’s two hurdlers, Terrell and Knight, as well as Piedade, Robbins and Liam Capozza have qualified to compete at regionals. The track regionals will be held on March 5 at the Reggie Lewis Arena in Boston. Barrington’s top weight throwers will compete at the New England Weight Throw Championships at PCTA on March 2.
