Barrington Town Hall to host solar eclipse viewing

This Saturday, Oct. 14, at 12:16 p.m., a partial solar eclipse will begin. Sponsored by the Astronomical Society of Southern New England and Barrington Recreation Department, the Barrington Town Hall welcomes visitors to utilize an array of safe, specifically filtered telescopes. In addition to the eclipse, it will be possible to view sun spots on the sun's roiling surface, and solar flares extending far into space.

WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 14, from 12-2:30 p.m.

WHERE: Barrington Town Hall lawn, 281 County Road, Barrington

MORE INFO: This event is free and open to the public. CAUTION: Viewing the sun with the naked eye or through a regular telescope may result in blindness.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
