Barrington storm update: Osprey nest destroyed

Posted

A Barrington resident snapped photographs of an osprey nest in Allin's Cove that was destroyed by the hard-hitting thunderstorm on Tuesday morning, Aug. 4.

The resident wrote:  "Of the family of five only one adult and two juveniles have been seen since the storm. The youngest juvenile started flying just a couple of days before. We do not think any of the juveniles are self sufficient and they rely on a parent for food."

Many of the osprey platforms were constructed by volunteers to help increase the osprey population in the area. About a year ago, a nest on Rumstick Point was damaged during a storm, but residents responded and helped save a young osprey that had not yet learned to fly.
