Barrington police responded to a call for possible trespassers at the former Zion Bible College property on Friday morning, April 18.

The property's caretaker called the police at about 11 a.m. after she reportedly saw some teenagers exit a car parked near the campus entrance and make their way to the Belton Court mansion — a large building that is actually listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Police arrived a few minutes later and began checking the property. An officer made his way into the vacant Belton Court mansion and eventually located two 18 year-olds — a boy from Dartmouth, Mass. and a girl from Barrington — in a room on the third floor. The boy was partially undressed and sitting on an old mattress.

The officer told the boy to get dressed and ordered both teenagers out of the building. Police then issued a no trespassing order to both individuals.

A similar situation had been reported on Tuesday, April 15, at about noon. The property's caretaker said she had heard that four teenagers had tried to break into the mansion. Police later checked out the building and found that a door lock had been damaged.

The property's owners, Shineharmony LLC., recently told town officials that they planned to develop the property into a retirement community in the near future.

The buildings on the former college campus have been vacant since Zion officials moved their school to Haverhill, Mass.
