Barrington officials to discuss future of school buildings

Workshop is March 2, more are planned

Do you want to learn more about the school district’s facilities report and the long-term master plan for Barrington schools?

Officials will hold a series of public workshops, starting with a facilities assessment on March 2. The district’s hired architect, Kaestle Boos Associates, will discuss the existing conditions of Barrington’s six public schools. The facilities report and a subsequent filing with the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) included options for the development of new elementary schools or renovations and repairs to existing school buildings.

The March 2 meeting will be held online and run from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

On Monday, March 7, a consultant will share a presentation about the RIDE process surrounding school construction, renovations and repairs. The workshop runs from 7 to 8 p.m.

The district is also developing opportunities for more workshops and discussions. Topics may include student enrollment, capacity and program equity; master plan visioning; post-visioning report-out; a presentation of construction and/or renovation options; and RIDE funding and bonuses, and town finances.

“We are pleased to announce that we will be moving forward with several engagement and information sessions that will allow individuals to learn about the strengths, challenges, opportunities, and goals for the district-wide long-term master plan,” wrote Barrington Superintendent of Schools Michael Messore.

“We look forward to your continued participation in this process. We will update the schedule as concrete times are selected for each of the meetings.   It is through all our voices together that we have the ability to affect positive change for the students of Barrington.”
