Eagles take top three spots in hammer throw

Barrington High School dominated the top spots in the hammer throw and powered to a commanding victory at the Eastern Division Track Championship on Wednesday, May 12.

Barrington's Annika Kelly won the hammer with a throw of 150 feet, 4 inches, while Faith Polando finished in second, just two inches off the top distance. Sydney Polando was third in the event with a throw of 138 feet, eight inches. 

The Eagles finished with 232 team points, winning easily over second place Portsmouth, which finished with 124 points. Bay View was third, East Providence was fourth, Middletown fifth, Mt. Hope sixth, Rogers seventh and Shea was eighth.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far.
