Barrington girls finish fourth in Large School Championship

The Barrington High School boys and girls indoor track teams battled for Class championships last week — the boys won the Class B title while the girls finished fourth in the Large Class division.

Boys win

Barrington scored points in nearly every event, as they racked up 91 total points and finished just ahead of Classical (86 points) and Portsmouth (81 points).

“This was a great team effort,” said BHS coach Bill Barrass. “The team was smart, did what they needed to do, and ended up ahead of the two strong teams from Portsmouth and Classical. On paper we were behind Portsmouth by 30 points, and behind Classical by 20 points.”

The Class B title was Barrington’s second straight.

Barrington had first place finishes in four events, including one relay team. Nate Greenberg, Jackson O’Connor, Andrew Blazewicz and Iain DeBoth ran to a first place finish in the 4x200-meter relay.

Ethan Knight and Eli Terrell finished one-two in the 55-meter hurdles. Knight clocked a 8.48 while Terrell had a time of 8.56.

Asher Robbins won the weight throw, and Greenberg sprinted to victory in the 300-meter race. Greenberg finished second in the 55-meter dash also.

The 4x800-meter team of Andrew Rego, Charlie Stockwell, Caleb Schultz and Holden Vaughan finished second. Brandon Piedade ran to a third place finish in the 3,000-meter race, and Blazewicz, Hayden Knight, Ethan Knight and DeBoth finished third in the 4x400-meter relay. Rego was fifth in the 1,500. Blazewicz and Terrell finished in fourth and fifth place, respectively, in the high jump.

Liam Capozza was fourth and Michael Fay finished sixth in the weight throw.

Girls finish fourth

The Barrington High School team got off to a strong start with a second place in the 4x800-meter relay, as Reilly Curran, Indie Lamb, Caroline Reznik and Marie Choi-Schattle teamed up for a strong finish.

Sarah Yee, Courtney Brady, Sophia Ford and Riley Leadem ran to a fifth place finish in the 4x200-meter relay.

Kyle Keough finished second in the 1,500-meter race, with a time of 5:07.57. Another second place finish was captured by Sophia Ford in the long jump.

Lamb finished fourth in the 600-meter race, while Choi-Schattle finished fifth and Keough was sixth in the 1,000.

Jordan Roskiewicz finished sixth in the high jump, and Lily Cregan was eighth in the weight throw.
