The Barrington High School varsity baseball team beat Chariho in its home opener under new head coach Vin Scandura by a score of 6-4 to open the season on a high note.

The Eagles trailed most of the game 2-1, until the sixth when an RBI single by Andrew Conaty tied the game at 2-2. This hit started the rally that led to a 6-2 lead for the Eagles heading into the top of the seventh.

Cabot Maher started the game and pitched four strong innings with 7 strikeouts, and Conaty pitched 3 innings to get the win by retiring 9 out of the 10 batters he faced with 2 strikeouts.

Maher, Aidan Gasbarro and George Connelly led the Eagles with 2 hits apiece, and catcher Nick Rondeau saved 2 runs by tagging out 2 different Chariho baserunners at the plate.

Barrington slipped to 1-1 after a 9-6 loss to Burrillville on Saturday. Matt Zeleznik started for the Eagles and pitched well for 3 innings with 3 strikeouts, but left with a 3-2 deficit. Burrillville rallied for 5 runs in the fourth inning and eventually got the lead to 9-2 before the Eagles' bats came to life. In the seventh, the Eagles fought back with hits, walks and sacrifices to get the game to 9-6 with the bases loaded, but could not tie it up in the end.

The Eagles offense was led by hits from Matt Zeleznik, Aidan Gasbarro and Andrew Conaty; five players drove in runs, including Zeleznik with 2, Gasbarro, Mike Pfeffer, Cabot Maher, and Liam McManus with 1 each.

The Eagles will host Prout School on Thursday, at 4:15 p.m.
