Amaral’s donates hundreds of dinners during annual Christmas giveaway

Posted

Amaral’s Fish & Chips (4 Redmond St., Warren) held its 9th annual Christmas dinner event on Sunday, giving away over 220 meals to anyone who wanted a home-cooked, high-quality holiday feast.

According to Tony Amaral, the tradition started back when he noticed lots of people inquiring about free gift certificates during the holiday season nearly a decade ago.

“When we first started it was the homeless and less fortunate and now it’s just been, let’s just feed anyone who wants a nice hot meal the Sunday before Christmas,” he said. “That’s basically how it started.”

The well-renowned fish and chips spot switches gears to stuffing, turkey, ham and mashed potatoes for the event, and also features an opportunity for kids to meet and take pictures with Santa. Any food that is leftover was donated to Crossroads in Providence to help food those in need.

“We’ve been fortunate enough to have 38 wonderful years with the people in Warren, so we felt it was time to give back,” said Amaral. “I don’t care if I feed 100 people, the rest will go to whoever needs the extra food.”
