A youth basketball coach has been arrested on charges of possessing child pornography.
Members of the computer crimes unit/internet crimes against children task force arrested Jason Elliott, 41, of Pawtucket, on Nov. 15.
A clinical social worker working with Mr. Elliott became concerned about his activity and notified the task force, which lead to an investigation of Mr. Elliott’s residence and the seizure of digital media allegedly belonging to him that contains child pornography, according to a RI State Police press release.
Mr. Elliott was processed and held overnight at State Police Headquarters.
On Saturday, Nov. 16, he was arraigned before Bail Commissioner Stephen Peltier who set bail at $50,000 with surety with special conditions to include no contact with minors and no access to the internet.
Mr. Elliott did not post bail and was taken to the Adult Correctional Institute.
He is scheduled for a re-arraignment in Sixth Division District Court on Monday, Nov. 18.
Mr. Elliott is an organizer and coach at the Rhode Island Hawks AAU Basketball Program, which sponsors basketball teams for boys in grades 5 thru 12. The program is based at 1 Kenyon Lane, Warren.

If convicted, the penalty for Possession of Child Pornography is a fine of not more than five thousand dollars ($5,000) or imprisonment not more than five years, or both.
