Tiverton mom arrested for DWI with daughter in car

Posted

Susan M. Boulay, 51, of 86 Daniel T. Church Road, Tiverton, was charged at 3:46 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24, with driving while intoxicated (first offense), failure to stop at the scene of an accident with damage resulting to the other vehicle, and refusal to submit to a chemical test.

Police said Ms. Boulay was driving an SUV that sideswiped another vehicle on East Main Road near Stubtoe Lane, then kept traveling north. After receiving a description of the vehicle, police stopped Ms. Boulay’s SUV on East Main Road near Church Lane.

Police said Ms. Boulay explained she had been in a rush to pick up her daughter, who was in the passenger seat, from Pennfield School. Police said Ms. Boulay failed a field sobriety test at the scene.

Here are some other highlights from the Portsmouth Police report from the past week.

Thursday, Feb. 23

Alfred F. McLaughlin, 56, of 28 North Main St., Westport, was charged with driving while intoxicated and refusal to submit to a chemical test after his pickup truck was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run accident at Portsmouth Auto shortly before noon. After getting a description of the vehicle, police stopped Mr. McLaughlin on Route 24 North. Police said they confiscated an open bottle of vodka they found in the truck’s center console.

Saturday, Feb. 25

Phillip C. Dugan, 29, of 38 Beardsworth Road, Tiverton, was charged at 1:26 a.m. with driving while intoxicated (first offense) and refusal to submit to a chemical test. Police said they stopped his car on Route 24 North near Turnpike Avenue after observing it leave the lane of travel.

A police officer extinguished an engine fire in a truck parked at a weigh station on Route 24 South. Police said the driver, who was pulling a trailer with three horses inside, pulled over when he saw smoke coming from the engine compartment. He didn’t have a fire extinguisher, but fortunately Patrol Officer Bruce Celico did. The trailer was later towed to Middletown, its final destination.
