Tiverton gardeners adopt an island

Posted

This fall, the Tiverton Garden Club landscaped the traffic island at Exit 5 off Route 24 in Tiverton to enhance the primary entry to town. It had previously been a neglected weed patch. This project was approved by RIDOT “Adopt-a-Spot.” Over 100 perennials, a Colorado blue spruce and 600 spring bulbs were planted. A “Welcome to Tiverton” sign was also added. Garden club members will be maintaining this island garden in the future for the town. The Garden Club project was supported by donations from Bank Newport, Viti Motors, Humphrey’s, Coastal Roasters, Olympic Physical Therapy, private donors and a state grant which was received with the help of Senator Jay Edwards.
