Robald J. Rodrigues, 75, Bristol

Ronald J. Rodrigues, 75, of Hope Street, died Nov. 28, 2016 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. He was the husband of Joyce (Collins) Rodrigues, whom he married April 25, 1970.  

Born in Warren, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary  (DeCosta) Rodrigues. Ron proudly served in the United States Army. A graduate of the University of Rhode Island's class of 1964, he started his accounting business in 1975. He was the treasurer of Good Shepherd in Pawtucket, and served in their vestry and choir.  Ron was an avid fisherman, golfer and a member of Crestwood Country Club, Rehoboth, Mass.

Besides his wife Joyce, he is survived by his brother, Tony Rodrigues of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; and although Ron did not have children, he was the cherished uncle of many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Joseph Jr., Richard, Mary, Patricia, and Rita. 

A memorial service was held Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016 at 11 a.m. in St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 399 Hope St., Bristol. Burial will be private. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bristol Animal Shelter, 10 Minturn Farm Road, Bristol, RI 02809; or St. Michael's Church, 399 Hope St., Bristol, RI 02809.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
