PORTSMOUTH — Here are some highlights from the Portsmouth Police report from over the past week.

Wednesday, Nov. 23

Walter W. Smith, 71, of 20 Bleu Lane, was charged around 2 p.m. with disorderly conduct (directing offensive words at another) after he boarded a school bus to confront its driver on Kubla Court, according to police. A 54-year-old First Student driver told police Mr. Smith pulled up alongside the bus while he was dropping students off and parked in front, blocking its path. He then boarded the bus and yelled profanities at the driver in front of a young female student sitting only a few rows behind the driver, police were told. Security footage of the incident confirmed the driver’s account, according to police.

Jeffrey F. Cornell, 38, of 51 Flint Corn Road, was charged at 11:22 p.m. with driving while intoxicated (first offense) and refusal to submit to a chemical test. Police said they made the arrest after finding his car on the front lawn of a Middle Road residence.

Friday, Nov. 25

Dennis A. Calhoun, 36, of 116 Bradford St., Bristol, was charged at 6:35 p.m. on a 2nd District Court warrant for failing to appear for a hearing, police said. Mr. Calhoun’s car was stopped on West Main Road near Freeborn Street because its rear license plate light was out, police said.

A vehicle driven by John Oliveira of Tiverton struck and killed a deer that ran onto Boyd’s Lane near the Route 24 North on-ramp just before 8 p.m. The accident caused disabling damage to the front end of the vehicle, but the driver was not injured.

Saturday, Nov. 26

Nicholas J. Castro, 20, of 25 Mark Lane, was charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense) and refusal to submit to a chemical test just before 1 a.m. Police made the arrest after receiving a report that a car later identified as Mr. Castro’s had struck a utility pole — snapping it in two pieces — near 25 East Main Road.

Ryan P. Andrews, 34, of 4 Third St., was charged at 2:23 a.m. with driving while intoxicated (first offense) and leaving the scene of an accident with damaging resulting to the other vehicle. The arrest followed a report from a Jamestown woman that a vehicle had struck her car while she was backing out of a Sprague Street driveway. The other vehicle, which left the scene, was described by a witness as a red Mitsubishi. Shortly afterward police found an abandoned car with front-end damage, which matched the description, in the area of the Sunny Acres trailer park on Bristol Ferry Road. Police went to Mr. Andrews’ home to find the registered owner and he answered the door, according to police. Mr. Andrews admitted to driving the car earlier and he failed a field sobriety test, according to police.

Douglas J. Swartz, 50, of 9 North Drive, was charged around 7:20 p.m. on a 2nd District Court warrant for failing to appear for a hearing. An officer with prior knowledge of the warrant made the arrest at Mr. Swartz’s home.

Sunday, Nov. 27

Two Massachusetts men faced multiple charges after the car they were in was stopped after it made an abrupt lane change on West Main Road near Turkey Hill around 10:45 a.m. A passenger, Angel A. Archilla, 22, of Randolph, was charged with illegal possession of a folding knife, as well as resisting arrest. The driver, Teuddy A. Ofarril, 19, of Lynn, was charged with driving an unregistered vehicle (the license plates did not match his vehicle), driving without proof of insurance, operating a vehicle with a broken brake light, tailgating and two counts of transporting passengers who weren’t wearing seat belts. Police said Mr. Ofarril complained that he had been pulled over only because he was Spanish and screamed at officers while they waited for a tow truck. He later showed up at headquarters with a woman and he continued to scream obscenities, demanding the release of Mr. Archilla, according to police.

A mother and daughter were charged shortly after 8 p.m. with assaulting each other at a home on Cottage Avenue. Jennifer J. Carruba, 36, of 22 Morgan St., and Karen J. Carruba, 57, of 49 Sprague St., were each charged with domestic assault following an argument.

Monday, Nov. 28

Ryan M. Sousa, 30, of 2074 North Main St., Apt. 2, Fall River, was charged at 9:30 a.m. with two counts of domestic assault in connection with an incident first reported Nov. 22. A Portsmouth woman told police that during an argument with Mr. Sousa, he grabbed her by the arm aggressively, threw her onto a couch and assaulted her. Police put out a warrant for Mr. Sousa’s arrest and he was taken into custody six days later.

Jessica L. Kryla, 19, of 57 Sidney St., Fall River, was charged at 1:49 p.m. with disorderly conduct (fighting/tumultuous behavior), after the Bradley School student allegedly pushed a teacher into a wall.

Police investigated a report of illegal dumping of hazardous waste in the area of Chestnut Street and Cottage Avenue. Police said they observed a large amount of a dark liquid in the roadway that appeared to be either diesel fuel or oil. The Department of Public Works covered the area with sand to absorb the material and cleaned the sand away later that day. A resident of the neighborhood told police he saw a white box truck parked at the location earlier in the day.

A car driven by Elizabeth Jordan of Middletown struck a deer that ran onto West Main Road near Raytheon shortly before 11 p.m. The vehicle sustained minor damage to its front grille. Police were unable to find the deer.
