To the editor:

Sincere thanks for recent coverage of Good Night Lights and the supportive editorial in last week’s paper. You have significantly raised local awareness among your readership to the benefit of children, families and staff at Hasbro Children’s Hospital.

The First Congregational Church “Good Night Lighters” have been tremendous in their efforts and loyalty as signalers. They have used their Monday and Saturday night missions to the East Providence shoreline to send a visual message of caring to patients while reinforcing their own sense of community.

I encourage all Bristol residents to find a way to take part in the Good Night Lights display at least once to witness first-hand the satisfaction of knowing your own small effort is brightening the spirits of hospitalized children. I also encourage other church and civic groups to consider getting involved.

Good Night Lights is a young project with vast potential for becoming a tradition. I assure readers that every blink, every night, is appreciated. I often witness how the “Magic Minute” can lift spirits at the end of a bad day — or week — for a hospitalized child and family. Please consider becoming part of that uplifting minute.
