EAST PROVIDENCE — The East Providence Police Department issued a public call for information and released a composite sketch of the suspect in a shooting earlier this month on Dodge Street near the Silver Spring Elementary School in city.
EPPD Lt. Raymond Blinn wrote in the statement "on April 8, just past midnight, a shooting occurred on Dodge Street in East Providence. The attached picture is a composite sketch based on information supplied by our victim."
The suspect is described as a black male, between 30-40 years of age, approximately 5-feet-10 in height, with a stocky build. The suspect may have been in a dark colored SUV, unknown make or model.
The East Providence Police Department is looking for the public’s assistance and urges anyone with information, regarding this shooting, to please contact the Detective Bureau at 435-7600.
Back on April 8, police answered a 911 call at approximately 12:10 a.m. from a 57-year-old male claiming to have been shot twice in his home on Dodge Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers confirmed he had been shot twice, once in the arm and the other in the chest, at relatively close range. The victim was laying just inside the front door of his residence.
At the time, EPPD Chief Christopher Parella said firefighters transported the man to hospital where he underwent emergency surgery for a severed artery. The chief said, however, at no time were the victim's injuries deemed life threatening. He said the victim remains in hospital in stable condition.
"We believe this was directed specifically to the victim," Chief Parella added. "We don't believe there is anything random about it."
Taking no chances, though, the chief said he ordered an increased police presence in the neighborhood and especially around the Silver Spring Elementary School Friday. He said additional patrols in the area would continue for the immediate future.
