E-waste collection at Portsmouth High on Saturday

If you’ve got a broken air conditioner or an old computer you’ve been itching to get rid of, you’ll have your chance this Saturday, Oct. 29

Indie Cycle, LLC will host an e-waste collection from 9 a.m. to noon at Portsmouth High School, 120 Education Way.

A $10 disposal fee will be charged for the following items: TVs, monitors, printers and air conditioners, dehumidifiers, small refrigerators, water coolers and small freezers. (Broken appliances with active leaks cannot be accepted.)

There’s no charge for the disposal of: 

• computers, laptops, servers, routers, mice, keyboards, speakers and microphones

• Hard drives, optical drives, motherboards, daughter boards, ram, CD ROMs, etc. 

• small printers, fax machines, scanners, toner cartridges, cameras, office equipment, calculators and small medical devices

• cell phones, cordless phones, PDAs, iPods and chargers

• auto/marine batteries and battery backups only

• console gaming systems and cables, wires

• audio/visual equipment, stereos, CD players, cassette players and remote controls

• small household appliances such as toasters, microwaves, toaster ovens, blenders and mixers

• typewriters and office equipment

Indie Cycle cannot accept light bulbs, smoke/CO2 detectors, electric organs or disposable (alkaline) batteries.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
