Arbor Day planting in East Providence honors Saveory

EAST PROVIDENCE — A special dedication took place during a tree planting ceremony on the grounds of the Waddington Elementary School in Riverside as part of the city's annual Arbor Day Celebration.

The tree, which was planted in the area of the newly refurbished playground at the school, was dedicated in the memory of Kristina “Krissy” Saveory, an active member of the Waddington community until her untimely passing nearly six years ago.

The event was sponsored by the East Providence Beautification as well as the City's Planning, Highway and Parks & Recreation Departments.

"For all Arbor Day celebrations, the Beautification Commission dedicates a tree to a person who has made an impact on people’s lives in East Providence," said Commission Chairperson Christine Pereira. "Krissy was a friend to all, who passed away too soon in June of 2010. She is greatly missed by the Saveory family, as well as so many of her friends."

East Providence Post and eastbayri.com staff photographer Rich Dionne chronicled the event in the gallery above.
