The view from Touisset and Mt. Hope Bay is about to get a lot nicer.
A Saugus, Mass. demolition firm is preparing to remove the gigantic water cooling towers that cost $620 million to erect and have dominated the Brayton Point skyline for a decade.
The decommissioned coal fired power plant closed earlier this year, and an office manager at Atlantic Coast Dismantling LLC confirmed Thursday morning that workers will soon start dismantling the towers, which rise 497 feet — taller than any building in Providence. Reports are that the towers will be imploded some time in November.
The plant was purchased in January by Commercial Development Company by its former owner, Dynergy Inc.
