I attended the council meeting on Tuesday night and stayed until 1:00 AM when it adjourned. East Providence residents (and others) have addressed the council during the last 3 consecutive meetings, not 2, to protest the council's resolution and actions supporting same sex marriage. I think it would be fair to say that some of the residents did more than just "admonish" the council as they called for their resignations and warned that that they will not be re-elected which resulted in applause and cheers from many in attendance. It was made quite clear that they are disappointed with the council's actions, do not believe this was council business, believe there is more important business to which they should attend and/or are offended that the council took it upon themselves to take this action without consulting the residents they represent. It was asked if council members are promoting their own agendas. When asked if they had been lobbied by any special interest groups there was an uproar! It appears to me that particular care was taken in this article to note that some objections were based on "religious beliefs", yet there is no absolutely no mention, whatsoever, of the petition, signed by approximately 1,000 East Providence citizens in just 2 days time, which was presented to the council opposing their resolution and actions and which, by the way, makes no reference to religion at all! In all honesty I have to say that I am not 100% sure of this next "fact", but in the end I only recall 1 member of the council maintaining their stance on the resolution. I don't recall hearing everyone on the council respond or being given the opportunity to respond. If history were to repeat itself they would all follow the leader any way and the outcome would remain the same. No matter what the outcome, the facts should always be reported correctly, fully and truthfully. Thank you.
