The town is Broke.
I think it's important to note in the story that I changed my motion after being instructed that I could not propose a 5% cut across the Town Offices Section of the Budget, and that I needed to come back down and do so "line-by-line".
Ted, it may be worth-while to follow up with the present developer as to what, if any, concern's they've had with dealing with the town planners office. It's my understanding that they wanted to start construction next month, however, still waiting on ???
We made a gap big enough to reinstate the Rec & Summer Program as well as EBCA.
However, there are many more cuts needed.
I remarked on the story on Facebook about the MVQ building... WHY DO WE STILL HAVE THAT?
The job of the council and manager is to constantly evaluate what the towns needs are and are not. That's called Management. We don't need the MVQ building, however, we've held on to it for over 15 years.
We held on to the Liberty Street school for years after we closed it, refusing offers and it ended up costing this town so much money.
If we need space for a program, monthly, daily or on a regular basis, there's plenty of vacancies in Ocean State Plaza: Rent it as needed!!
This situation didn't happen overnight, it's been years of failure. The town council and manager have had plenty of opportunity to fix this, but they haven't. So now it's up to the residents to forcefully send them message.
