PORTSMOUTH — Runners young and old took over the streets of Common Fence Point Sunday morning for a good cause: raising money for the Portsmouth High School Music Boosters.
The 15th annual Common Fence Point 5 Mile Run & 3 Mile Fun Walk featured competitors from the East Bay and beyond — including one from Las Cruces, N.M., and another from Eagle River, Ark.
The race featured 16 tight corners and nice views of Mt. Hope Bay and the Sakonnet River. Afterwards, participants gathered for a post-race party with a raffle, DJ and refreshments.
The overall winner was Mike Fisher of Brighton, Mass., who clocked a time of 25 minutes, 57 seconds.
The top female finisher was Carolyn Heidenthal of Grafton, Mass., who came in 11th overall with a time of 35:44.
Portsmouth High School track coaches take note: Twelve-year-old James McCarron of Portsmouth took fourth place overall with a time of 29:35.

The course record for men was set in 2007 by Dan Kahn, who ran the route in 25:50. The fastest time recorded by a woman was 29:01, set by Sara Donahue in 2013.
