Portsmouth zoners to consider amendment of housing development

PORTSMOUTH — Aquidneck Country Club is seeking Zoning Board of Review approval to amend a previously approved special-use permit to develop 22 single-family dwellings and six duplex units on Willow Lane.

The zoning board will consider the application under “old business” at its meeting on Thursday, April 21, beginning at 7 p.m. at Town Hall.

The developer had previously received approval for three 12-unit multi-family buildings on a 6.4-acre parcel that’s part of the Carnegie development, but is seeking to amend that plan.

The proposed amendment also includes the location of a stormwater detention area on Brownell Lane, as well as dimensional variances for front yard and building stories as well as the distance between building, roadway width, number of units per building and parking and traveled way setbacks.

Also under “old business,” Newport Solar (applicant) and Joseph Studlick (owner) will seek a special-use permit to construct a ground-mounted small solar energy system at 424 Vanderbilt Lane.

Under “new business,” the board will hear a request from 3302 East Main Road, LLC (owner) and Tesla (care of Dewberry Engineers) for a modification to a previously approved special-use permit for an auto fuel service station and dimension variance for a side yard setback, to install an electrical vehicle charging station at Neon Marketplace, 3302 East Main Road.

Also on Thursday, Gained DeCastro (applicant) and DeCastro Brothers Realty, LLC (owners) will request dimensional variances, for front and side yard setbacks having multiple storage sheds and locating storage sheds outside of the rear yard, to construct two 160-square-foot shipping container storage sheds at 1698 East Main Road.

The board will also hear separate petitions for special-use permits to operate day care centers:

• One of them at 40 Lauren Drive, is proposed by Lisa Mailloux.

• The other, at 3381 East Main Road, is being sought by Julia Smith (applicant) and GTD Realty, LLC (owner).

The meeting will be held in person in the Town Council Chambers as well as live streamed on the web via Zoom at https://livestream.portsmouthri.com/zoning.
