PORTSMOUTH — The town’s Department of Public Works will pick up discarded Christmas trees using the following schedule based on voting precincts:
• Monday, Jan. 8: Precinct 2702
• Tuesday, Jan. 9: Precinct 2703
• Wednesday, Jan. 10: Precincts 2704 and 2705
• Thursday, Jan. 11: Precinct 2706
• Friday, Jan. 12: Precinct 2707
If you don’t know your precinct, contact the Canvassing Office at 401/683-3157, or visit vote.sos.ri.gov and choose “View/Update My Voter Record.”
Note the following:
• Trees must be placed at curbside by 7 a.m. on your collection day.
• Trees must not be in plastic bags and must be totally stripped of all decorations and tinsel.
• Residents who miss their pickup date may bring Christmas trees to the Department of Public Works located off Hedly Street. Trees will not be accepted at the Transfer Station.
• Trees will be recycled into mulch that will be available free of charge to Portsmouth residents. For more information on when mulch is available, contact Public Works at 401/683-0362.
In the event of inclement weather, this schedule may change; contact Public Works for your new pickup date.
